The violinist Agata Daraškaitė was awarded by Charles, Prince of Wales

We are pleased to announce that on the 12th of March a Lithuanian violinist Agata Daraškaitė has been awarded the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Rose Bowl, an annual prize for outstanding studentship at the Royal College of Music. The prestigious ceremony took place in the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall and the award was handed to her by Charles, Prince of Wales himself. A. Daraškaitė completed her Masters Degree at the RCM in July 2014 and has also received the Jacqueline Ward Memorial Prize for Strings.

Agata was born in Poland and at the age of five moved to Lithuania where she started studying at the National M.K. Ciurlionis School of Arts. While studying in Lithuania, Agata made her solo debut with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra at the age of 11 and won prizes in ten Youth Competitions across Europe. She has performed with all the major Lithuanian Orchestras, including the State Symphony Orchestra, Lithuanian National Symphony orchestra and Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra.

At the age of 14 Agata moved to England to study at the Yehudi Menuhin School with prof. Natalya Boyarsky. Since then she has been performing solo and chamber music regularly across the UK (Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Cadogan Hall). In 2009 she had the privilege to perform solo (with Vladimir Jurowski conducting) at the Queen Elizabeth Hall as part of the LPO’s “Between two worlds: Alfred Schnittke” festival. In 2012 Agata won the RCM Concerto Competition and performed Berg’s violin concerto with the RCM Symphony Orchestra, Edward Gardner conducting.

In summer 2013 Agata won a place in the Kremerata Baltica, a chamber orchestra of musicians from the Baltic States lead by Gidon Kremer, with which she has since toured Europe, the Middle East and North America.
