The United Kingdom recognized Lithuania de jure on 20 December 1922.
On 27 August 1991, the United Kingdom recognized the re-established independent State of Lithuania de jure.
Diplomatic relations were re-established on 4 September 1991.
From 1991 to 1993, Vincas Balickas served as the first Ambassador of Lithuania to the United Kingdom after the re-establishment of diplomatic relations.
From 1991 to 1994, Michael John Peart served as the first Ambassador of the United Kingdom after the re-establishment of diplomatic relations.
