Collection of a passport or identity card

Collection of a passport or identity card

Collection at the embassy

You will be informed by email when the passport or identity card has arrived at the embassy.

No appointment is required to collect the passport or identity card.

Documents can be collected from Monday to Friday, between 9:00 and 15:00. Upon arrival at the embassy, go to the passport reception area and approach an available counter to inform the officer that you have come to collect the passport.

A passport or identity card may be collected at the embassy by:

  • the citizen themselves
  • a person named in the citizen’s written request for issuance of a passport or identity card
  • a person authorised by the citizen, presenting a power of attorney certified in notarial form
  • another legal representative

When collecting the document(s), you must present the old passport or identity card (if not lost).

For collecting a passport or identity card for a citizen under 16 years of age, one of the parents or guardians must attend, presenting both their own and the child’s passport or identity card (if not lost and still valid).

For collecting a passport or identity card for a citizen aged 16 to 18, the citizen may collect it themselves, or one of the parents/guardians may do so, presenting both their own and the child’s passport or identity card (if not lost and still valid).

If the citizen does not collect the issued document from the consular office within one year from the date of issuance, the document will be declared invalid and destroyed in accordance with the established procedure.

Certificates (electronic identification certificate and qualified electronic signature certificate), which are issued with an identity card for persons aged 14 and over, are delivered only in person or by post. Representatives (parents, guardians) or other authorised persons are not allowed to collect these certificates.

Postal delivery

If a citizen wishes, a passport or identity card may be sent by registered post upon submission of a prepaid envelope.

For passport delivery, a SPECIAL DELIVERY envelope prepaid for up to 100 grams is required (one envelope per document). The envelope must be purchased at the post office.

For identity cards issued to persons under 14 years of age, one SPECIAL DELIVERY envelope prepaid for up to 100 grams is required. The envelope must be purchased at the post office.

For identity cards issued to persons over 14 years of age (when it is requested that certificates be included in the identity card), two SPECIAL DELIVERY envelopes prepaid for up to 100 grams are required. One envelope is used for sending the identity card, and the other for electronic identification certificates. If certificates are not requested, one Special Delivery envelope is sufficient. Envelopes must be purchased at the post office.

The embassy is not responsible for any loss of documents during postal delivery.

Important:

After receiving the passport or identity card by post, or electronic identification certificates, they must be activated by logging into your MIGRIS account using the email address to which you received the MIGRIS notification. Once you confirm in your account that you have received the passport or identity card, the documents will become valid.

Alternatively, documents received by post can be activated by completing the notification form, which must be scanned or photographed and sent to the embassy by email, as indicated in the form. Only after the embassy receives this notification will the passport, identity card, or electronic identification certificates be activated and become valid. The notification form can be found here.

If it is not possible to do this by email, the notification may be sent to the embassy by post. The mailing address is provided in the application form.

We remind you that after renewing your passport or identity card, you must update the information about your identity document in your United Kingdom residence status account (UK Visas and Immigration account). More information can be found here.
