Evening with the writer and art historian Kristina Sabaliauskaitė
We are delighted to invite you to an evening with the Lithuanian writer and art historian Kristina Sabaliauskaitė on the occasion of her latest historical novel Silva Rerum III (currently the number one bestseller in Lithuania since its publication in February this year).
An account of the flourishing and decadent Rococo culture in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, it is based on true historical events and characters. The storyline focuses on the prodigious but controversial Prince Marcin Radziwill who allegedly renounced the Catholic faith in favour of Judaism, as well as the origins of the beautiful Jewish legend of Ger Tzedek, the Righteous Convert of Vilna.
There will be the opportunity to listen to several extracts translated by Romas Kinka from Kristina Sabaliauskaitė's latest book and hear the author and translator discuss the relationship between science and art, history and literature, the concept behind the Silva rerum trilogy, as well as the fascinating multicultural history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
Tuesday, 27 May, 2014, 7 pm-9 pm.
Door open: 6.30 pm
Liquid refreshments will be served.
