A UNITED REMEMBRANCE SERVUCE TO COMMEMORATE THE VICTIMS OF DEPORTATION

A United Remembrance Service to commemorate the deportation to Siberia of Lithuanians, Latvians and Estonians was held at St. James’s Church in London on 16 June 2013. It is annually organised by the Baltic Council in Great Britain. The service was held by Rev Dr Canon Michael Bourdeaux, the defender of religious freedom of the Baltic nations and the author of the book “Land of Crosses”.

The ambassadors of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia were present at the service and lit up the candles in memory of the victims of the Stalinist repressions. “We have no right to forget this painful period in the Lithuanian history. The memory of the victims of Siberia deportations lives in their children and their grandchildren. We must live and work in a way so this tragedy would never repeat again” – said the Ambassador of Lithuania Mrs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė.
