Declaring Departure from Lithuania

Declaring Departure from Lithuania

Under the Law on the Declaration of the Place of Residence of the Republic of Lithuania, Lithuanian citizens leaving Lithuania for more than six months are required to declare their departure. The place of residence of minor children must be declared by their parents, adoptive parents or guardians.

If you originally left Lithuania for less than six months but have since stayed in the United Kingdom for a longer period, you can also declare your departure through the Embassy.

You can declare your departure from Lithuania:

  • Online, by logging in to the Electronic Government Gateway (“Services for Residents / Declaration of Place of Residence”), if you use online banking with a Lithuanian commercial bank or have a Lithuanian identity card with an active e-signature.
  • In person at the Embassy during other consular services“ opening hours. You must present a valid identity document. No appointment is required. Applications are handled in the small reception hall (entrance from John Islip Street, down the stairs at the corner of the Embassy).
  • By post, by sending a completed Declaration of Departure from Lithuania together with a copy of a valid Lithuanian passport or identity card.

Requests to declare your departure from Lithuania cannot be submitted by email.

IMPORTANT:

Under Lithuanian law, the permanent place of residence of a minor child is the permanent place of residence of their parents or guardians. Therefore, if a minor Lithuanian citizen is living with you in the United Kingdom and their departure from Lithuania has not been declared, a separate declaration must be submitted on their behalf.

The declaration must be submitted together with a valid Lithuanian passport or identity card for both the person submitting the declaration and the minor child.

If the minor Lithuanian citizen remains living in Lithuania, you must provide a written explanation stating where the child lives and who is responsible for their care.
