YOU CAN STILL REGISTER TO THE LITHUANIAN PRESIDENCY CONFERENCE AT RIBA TO DISCUSS THE FREE MOVEMENT OF ARCHITECTS IN THE EU
The Lithuanian Embassy in London, the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the UK Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) are hosting a conference on the future of architectural education in Europe on 9 September 2013 to coincide with the Lithuanian EU Presidency.
The conference ‘Recognition of Professional Qualifications in the EU: Challenges and Opportunities’ will be held at the RIBA, 66 Portland Place, W1. The event, which features a special focus on architects, coincides with the opening of an exhibition about the evolution of Lithuanian architecture, also at the RIBA.
The conference will be opened by the Minister for Trade and Investment, Lord Green of Hurstpierpoint; the Lithuanian Minister of Environment and Urban Planning Valentinas Mazuronis and RIBA President Stephen Hodder. Representatives from the European Commission, the Architects Council of Europe, the UK Architects Registration Board (ARB) and the Construction Industry Council (CIC) will share views on whether impending legislative changes will empower or challenge the movement of architects within the Single Market.
The Lithuanian Ambassador Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė said: “Lithuania strongly supports the deepening of the Single Market which is one of the greatest achievements of the European Union. During our Presidency we will aim to achieve the maximum progress in implementing the modernisation of the Professional Qualifications regulations. We are delighted to work with RIBA and UK Department for Business, Innovation & skills to raise the relevant questions at the conference in London.”
RIBA President Elect Stephen Hodder said: “Our upcoming conference is a great opportunity for those interested in the future of architectural education in the UK and EU to join the debate and hear direct from those responsible for implementing the upcoming reforms.

Exhibition: Parallels - Lithuanian Architecture: Three Eras, Three Faces
This exhibition features the aesthetic and ideological development of Lithuanian architecture in three eras: era of independence between the two World Wars, era of Soviet occupation and finally, the era after 1990.
