Vitalija Glovackytė featured in New Music for Violin and Objects

The 840 experimental music series continues with a concert at St James’ church in Islington (London, N1 8PF). Titled New Music for Violin and Objects, the concert will take place on Saturday, 5 March, 7.30pm, and will feature Sunday by composer Vitalija Glovackytė, performed by violinist Rubern Zilberstein. The programme also features new works from composers Michael Baldwin, Dominic Lash, James Saunders and Laurie Tompkins, joined by Alex Nikiporenko, Nicholas Peters and Jennifer Walshe.

840 was founded in 2014 by composers Nicholas Peters and Alex Nikiporenko. This concert series is committed to promote new works by young composers, each concert focusing on a particular chamber instrumentation. According to Nikiporenko, this particular focus is what makes the series exceptional. “Other series often present pieces for a variety of different ensembles. For us, instrumentation provides a backbone, an identity to each of our concerts”, says the composer. New Music for Violin and Objects is the series’ second event this year, showcasing the sounds of the traditional violin, and the less traditional sounds of vibrating phone motors and Sainsbury’s bags.

In the near future, 840 plans to tour New Music for Violin and Objects around the United Kingdom, and expand their collaboration with various chamber music orchestras.

Vitalija Glovackytė studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and is currently based in Manchester. Glovackytė‘s oeuvre spans wide, ranging from lavish operas to multimedia installations in Peckham Multistorey car park (as part of London Contemporary Music Festival). Her works, often experimenting with electronic music and various instruments, have been performed at Bridgewater Hall, the British Museum, IABF centre and elsewhere.

In 2012, Glovackytė co-founded Another Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACM) with Michael Cutting. The ensemble has performed across the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark, and has also participated in Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, New North West Festival and OHNO festival. This year, ACM will showcase Glovackytė‘s new works at SPOR music festival in Denmark and festival “Druskomanija” in Lithuania.
