Tribute Run "Road of Life and Death"
Last week the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in London invited all Lithuanians living in the UK and friends of Lithuania to participate in a virtual tribute run dedicated to mark the 30th anniversary of the Day of Freedom Defenders and to commemorate the tragic events of the 13th of January 1991, when the Soviet tanks attacked singing crowds of civilians who were defending strategic institutions in Vilnius.
Due to Covid-19 pandemic, all the participants ran individually at their chosen location and recorded the running results with various apps. We are so pleased that over 100 runners in various locations in Lithuania and the UK completed the symbolic distance of 9 km! You can find more photos from the run here.
We thank everyone who participated and hope that next year we will be able to commemorate one of the most important dates in Lithuania’s road to freedom and independence together.
The “Road of Life and Death” tribute run has been organized in Lithuania every year since 1992 and the Lithuanian Embassy in London joined the initiative in 2015. Every year, Lithuanians and friends of Lithuania around the globe join the tribute run. By running together, we all manifest our commitment to freedom and human dignity.
