TOTALITARIAN IDEOLOGIES SHOULD BE NEVER REBORN IN EUROPE

On 5th November 2013 the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė participated in the roundtable discussion “Anti-soviet resistance in the Baltic states”, organised by the Baltic Council in Great and sponsored by the University College London.

Academicians, historians and students of history, as well as senior diplomats took part in the discussions on how to preserve the memory of the victims of mass deportations and exterminations of the totalitarian regimes. “Totalitarian ideologies should be never reborn in Europe”, in her speech stressed the Lithuanian Ambassador.

In parallel to the conference an exhibition “Under Alien Skies: Lithuanian People in Soviet Hard Labour Camps and Exile in 1940-1958” was opened.  The exposition shows a narrative of the crimes of the Soviet totalitarian regime, and also pays tribute to the people of Lithuania who suffered the horrors of exile and labour camps.
