Three Lithuanian Art Galleries Exhibiting at ART16
On 20 – 22 May, 2016 Olympia exhibition centre (Olympia Way, London, W14 8UX) welcomes the return of ART16, London’s summer art fair. This year the fair features three Lithuanian art galleries, who will showcase the following artists: Jonas Gasiūnas, Aleksas Andriuškevičius, Patricija Gilytė, Laisvydė Šalčiūtė, Remigijus Treigys (Meno Parkas gallery), Rimas Sakalauskas and Jonas Jurickas (Meno Niša gallery), and Kristina Ališauskaitė and Eglė Karpavičiūtė (Rooster gallery). 2016 is the fair’s fourth consecutive year, gathering 100 galleries from 30 countries.
Last year the event was visited by over 24 thousand art aficionados. The exhibition of Lithuanian art is partly funded by the Lithuanian culture council and Kaunas city council.
Meno Parkas gallery collection offers a fragmented analysis of contemporary culture, distancing itself from everyday life and plunging towards moments of truth. Amongst returning artists Jonas Gasiūnas, Patricija Gilytė, Laisvydė Šalčiūtė, Remigijus Treigys’s photographs and Aleksas Andriuškevičius‘s drawings will be seen by ART16 visitors for the first time.
Meno Niša gallery will showcase two young artists: video artist Rimas Sakalauskas and painter Jonas Jurcikas. Although they use different techniques, both Sakalauskas and Jurcikas question the relationship between the past and the present and the concept of reality itself.
Rooster gallery brings Eglė Karpavičiūtė and Kristina Ališauskaitė, two of the brightest young Lithuanian painters, who have participated in various international fair and competitions.
