THE US SUPPORTS MORE TRANSPARENT ENERGY MARKET IN THE BALTIC STATES

The efforts of the Baltic States to diversify energy sources and create a more transparent energy market has the US support, says US Vice-President Joe Biden.
“Your energy success is important for the US both strategically and economically. We support your efforts as EU member-states to diversify energy sources and create a more transparent energy market,” the vice-president said in an article published in Lithuania’s daily ‘Lietuvos rytas’ on Friday.
The article is published during the visit of the Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian presidents in the US.
Later on Friday, the three Baltic leaders are planned to meet with Biden and US President Barack Obama.
“The United States can share their unique experience in energy,” said Biden, emphasising that the Baltic States’ cooperation with their Northern neighbours by way of innovative methods for energy independence is an achievement for all.
In the vice-president’s words, the economic relations between the US and the Baltic states should reach the level of close defence cooperation.
