The President to attend Margaret Thatcher’s funeral

On Wednesday, April 17, President Dalia Grybauskaitė will attend the funeral of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Leaders from all over the world will arrive for the funeral ceremony of one of the most prominent and influential political figures of the twentieth century.

"Margaret Thatcher has been a true patriot of Great Britain. She was not afraid to take responsibility for her country and its people. As a politician she dared tell the truth and do what is necessary," the President said.

According to the President, M. Thatcher is an example of how one person can change the history of the world. Her approach to communism and the promotion of the values of Western democracies helped break the ice in the relationship between Western Europe and the Soviet Union. The former British leader contributed significantly to ending the Cold War. The processes she encouraged paved the way for the independence of the Baltic States.

Among the participants in Margaret Thatcher's funeral will be the current and former heads of state and government from many countries. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the incumbent Prime Minister of the United Kingdom David Cameron will also pay tribute to the late politician during a solemn funeral ceremony.
