The Mettis String Quartet performs at the European Chamber Music Academy Showcase

Ever since its establishment in 2004, the European Chamber Music Academy has had a fruitful partnership with the world-famous Wigmore Hall in London. This year, its annual showcase of the most talented young musicians opens with the Mettis String Quartet (Lithuania) and the Boccherini Trio, a string trio based in Berlin. The concert will take place on Friday, 22January 2015, commencing at 1p.m. The programme includes the intense String Quartet No. 2 by Béla Bartók and the vigorous String Trio in G major Op. 9 No. 1 by Ludwig van Beethoven, giving the performers an exceptional opportunity to demonstrate their brilliance.

The Mettis String Quartet is comprised out of four highly accomplished musicians: Kostas Tumosa (violin), Bernardas Petrauskas (violin), Rokas Vaitkevičius (cello) and Karolis Rudokas (viola). After forming the ensemble at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, Mettis has performed in a broad variety of events, both local and international. These include representing LMTA in various chamber music festivals, including Harmos’13 (Portugal), the European Festival of Music Academies (ECMA), and the 49th Chamber Music Festival in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

Apart from intensively touring and performing solo, Mettis frequently performs in open masterclasses. The quartet participated in the International Summer Academy of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in 2014, receiving two awards: the chamber music and Gottfried von Einem foundation prize for an outstanding interpretation of a composer’s string quartet. Since September 2014, Mettis has been a member of the ECMA, and has been selected to perform at the academy’s 2015 showcase in London.

This concert is the quartet’s first ever concert in London. It is hard to imagine a better-suited venue for such an occasion: Wigmore Hall, a venue unlike any other, and known for its near perfect acoustics, places the Lithuanian quartet amongst the brightest stars of chamber music. While being a significant achievement in their creative path, it also provides these musicians with the opportunity to showcase their artistic potential to London’s concert-goers.
