THE LITHUANIAN AMBASSADOR ASTA SKAISGIRYTĖ LIAUŠKIENĖ PRESENTED LITHUANIAN EU PRESIDENCY PRIORITIES TO THE HOUSE OF LORDS

On 9 July 2013, Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania in the UK Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė participated in the meeting of the European Union Select Committee of the House of Lords, dedicated to the discussion about the Lithuanian EU Presidency priorities.

 

During her presentation, Ambassador highlighted the priorities of the Lithuanian EU Presidency and stressed that the focus of the Presidency is the creation of credible, growing and open Europe.  “Sustainable economic growth, youth employment, sound public finances, banking union, deeper integration of the internal market, in particular in energy and services sectors, preparations for the Eastern Partnerships Summit in Vilnius, negotiations on the Free trade agreements with the USA and Japan – to name just a few items on the agenda during the second half of 2013”, said the Ambassador.

Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė also introduced the Peers with the Programme of EU Presidency events in the United Kingdom.  The programme includes conferences about the internal market, banking union, EU food safety policy, energy security, transatlantic relations. The programme does not lack cultural events either.  “Lithuania in the United Kingdom will be showcased as Open, Creative and Modern country.  Here in the UK, people will be able to discover Lithuanian architecture and design, jazz and contemporary arts.  To conclude series of the Presidency events, Lithuanian robots will be displayed at London Science museum”, said the Lithuanian Ambassador.
