“The Gambler“ at East End film festival
One of the most successful Lithuanian films “The Gambler/Lošėjas“ (director Ignas Jonynas) will be shown at the London‘s East End Film Festival this Tuesday, 18 June. The film which has been internationally acclaimed in more than thirty film festivals tells a macabre story “about a moral dilemma that arises within the individual who was formed in the junction of different regimes“ (I. Jonynas).
Vincentas is an intelligent, quick thinking paramedic, a man good at his job, popular with his colleagues and compassionate towards the people he cares for. However, he is also a committed, passionate gambler. It’s a pastime that threatens to get him to serious trouble, and he is eventually forced to make a radical decision in an attempt to repay his debts. Striking upon an idea to create an illegal game around his profession, he hopes to related to his profession. But a decision that we hopes will provide a route out of debt will end up putting much more than money at stake in this gripping drama thriller.
The UK film premjere and Q&A with script co-writer philosopher K. Sabolius will be held at Genesis cinema at 6pm.
