The Fables of Ladislas Starewitch at the Barbican

Barbican Art Gallery introduces an evening of film celebrating the pioneering puppet animator Ladislas Starewitch, considered one of the greatest animators, who started his career in Kaunas, Lithuania in the beginning of the 20th century. Don’t miss the rare opportunity to see Starewitch’s short films The Cameraman’s Revenge (1912) and The Frogs That Demand a King, aka Frogland (1922) as well as Lithuanian film The Bug Trainer, produced by Era Film in collaboration with Se-ma-for Film Production (Poland), NHK (Japan), AVRO (The Netherlands), YLE Co-productions (Finland).
This screening is part of the accompanying events of Watch Me Move: The Animation Show at the Barbican Art Gallery (15 June 2011 - 11 September 2011). Tracing the history of animation over the last 150 years, Watch Me Move: The Animation Show brings together for the first time, over one hundred films by contemporary artists, cut-out, collage, puppet, clay and stop-motion animators, auteur filmmakers and exponents of experimental film alongside the creative output of the commercial studios.
