“The Excursionist” screening commemorates Soviet mass deportations from Lithuania
June 23rd, 2015 the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London hosted the screening of the Lithuanian film “The Excursionist”. It was followed by Q/A session with the film director Audrius Juzėnas. The event was dedicated to commemorate mass Soviet deportations of Lithuanians to Siberia during and after WWII. Based on true facts “The Excursionist” tells the story of a ten year old girl who escapes from a deportee train and goes on a 5000 miles long journey back to her native Lithuania.
“Hundreds of thousands of innocent Lithuanians stigmatized as ‘class enemies‘ were compelled to suffer in the Soviet labour camps during and after WWII. Tonight we pay tribute to all those who fell victim to this Stalinist crime”, the Lithuanian Ambassador Asta Skaisgirytė said.
The UK Lithuanian community has commemorated the victims of Communist repression since their arrival in this country as refugees after the World War II.
