THE DEDALUS BOOK OF LITHUANIAN LITERATURE PRESENTED IN LONDON

On the Occasion of Lithuania's Presidency of the Council of the European Union, 18 November was organized an evening of Lithuanian Literature, featuring readings in English and Lithuanian from a new anthology of Lithuanian Literature – the Dedalus Book of Lithuanian Literature – available for the first time in English. The anthology's editor, Almantas Samalavičius, gave a talk introducing Lithuania's writers to the uninitiated, showing how the country's writers have reflected Lithuania's development from an agrarian Catholic society and its ability to survive the worst ideologies of the twentieth century. The readings were given by the actress Živilė Šlekytė-Roche. The talk and readings were be followed by a reception, with music from Lithuanian guitarist Tomas Čiučelis.
