Today the Lithuanian Ambassador Mrs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė published an open letter to The Independent editor Mr Amol Rajan in which she expressed her regret to see that The Independent could ever publish such a despicable, tasteless, racist and xenophobic cartoon referring to the Daily Cartoon published on 13 August 2013.
Furthermore, the Ambassador stressed that Lithuanians who have made Britain their home are responsible contributors to the well-being of the UK economy. It underlines the positive aspects of immigration, something which was wiped out from the perspective of the author of the cartoon.
Finally, the Ambassador reminded that Lithuanians had continuously lived in the UK for over a hundred years. The British Government had never accepted the Soviet occupation of Lithuania. The bilateral relations between the two countries continue to grow from strength to strength.
