Tadas Kazakevicius wins Lithuanian National Award at SONY World Photography competition

Tadas Kazakevičius is a 32 year old Lithuanian documentary photographer. Originally born and raised in an industrial city of Šiauliai, he lived in the UK for five years, but currently resides in Vilnius, Lithuania. Although professionally specializes in advertising and graphic design, Tadas devotes a big part of his time to documentary photography and portraiture.

His image, 'Ugne, Dovydas and Egidijus' was shortlisted in the Open Portraits category of the 2017 Sony World Photography Awards and won Lithuania National Award. This picture is a part of the ongoing project ‘Soon to be Gone’ that shows the vanishing of Lithuanian countryside. Though it is made in a positive way of showing how much is still left and how wonderful and timeless it still is.

The Sony World Photography Awards is the world’s largest photography competition, and the National Awards is a global program open to photographers of all abilities.  It aims to find the best single photograph taken a local photographer in 65 countries.

Produced by the World Photography Organisation, 2017 sees the 10th anniversary of the Sony World Photography Awards and a decade-long partnership with its headline sponsor, Sony. The Awards recognize and reward the very best contemporary photography captured over the last year, and incorporate four competitions - Professional, Open, Youth and Student Focus.  The overall winners of the 2017 Sony World Photography Awards will be announced on April 20.

The winning work will be shown alongside the awards’ other winning and shortlisted images at the Sony World Photography Awards & Martin Parr – 2017 Exhibition in London Somerset House from April 21 – May 7 and published in the annual winners’ book.
