Songs of Vilna ghetto revived at the Embassy to commemorate the Shoah in Lithuania
September 22, 2016 the representatives of the Lithuanian, British and Jewish communities in the UK, as well as foreign diplomats gathered together at the Embassy to commemorate the Shoah in Lithuania.
The Commemoration was opened by Rabbi Herschel Gluck with the traditional candle-lightening ceremony and prayers for the victims of the Holocaust.
The songs of Vilna ghetto were then revived by the Lithuanian soloist of chamber music Judita Leitaitė, the pianist Jelena Makarova and the violinist Paulina Daukšytė.
“Lithuania will continue to pass on the memory of the Holocaust to future generations. It is our moral commitment that the tragedy of Lithuanian Jews is never forgotten”, the Lithuanian Ambassador Asta Skaisgirytė said.
Holocaust in Lithuania took away over 200 thousand lives and is traditionally commemorated on the 23th September – the day of the liquidation of Vilnius ghetto.
