SEMINAR FOR TEACHERS OF LITHUANIAN SCHOOLS' IN THE UK
32 teachers of Lithuanian language, History, Geography and even Music from all over the United Kingdom gathered to the Embassy to improve their qualifications on 3-5 January this year. Seven experts from the Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Culture and Department for Lithuanians living abroad arrived from Lithuania to give lectures to the teachers. Minister of Education and Science of Lithuania Mrs Roma Zakaitiene arrived from Vilnius to meet with teachers and give them certificates.
There are 9 Lithuanian Weekend Schools and more to be established soon. Some of the teachers work as assistants in the British schools.
One British school has allowed Lithuanian origin children to have Lithuanian language lessons. Head Teacher of Bishop Challoner Catholic Collegiate School Mrs Catherine Myers (BA Dip Ed) was presented by the Minister of Education of Lithuania with the Letter of Appreciation to show the gratitude of Lithuanians for such important gesture towards Lithuanian language learning.
