REGISTRATION OPEN TO THE LITHUANIAN PRESIDENCY CONFERENCE AT RIBA TO DISCUSS THE FREE MOVEMENT OF ARCHITECTS IN THE EU
The Lithuanian Embassy in London together with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the UK Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) is organising a conference during the Lithuanian EU Presidency. The event is entitled "Recognition of Professional Qualifications in the EU: Challenges and Opportunities" (with a special focus on architects) and will be held at the RIBA on 9 September 2013. The discussions will be followed by the official reception and opening of the Lithuanian architecture exhibition “Parallels”.
The conference will be opened by the Minister for Trade and Investment, Lord Green of Hurstpierpoint; the Lithuanian Minister of Environment and Urban Planning Mr Valentinas Mazuronis and the RIBA President elect Mr Stephen Hodder. The representatives of the European Commission, the Architects Council of Europe, the Architects Registration Board as well as the Construction Industry Council will share their views on how the legislative changes will empower or challenge the movement of architects within the Single Market.
The event will be followed by the Official Reception during which the exhibition of Lithuanian architecture, “Parallels”, will be opened. It will show how easily the aesthetic and ideological development of Lithuanian architecture falls into three eras: era of independence between the two World Wars, era of Soviet occupation and finally, the era after 1990.

About the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union
The Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council focuses on three main goals: Credible, Growing and Open Europe. The country is in charge of more than 1500 meetings in Brussels and Luxemburg and more than 200 high ranking events in Lithuania. It Is expected that there will be 20 000 guests arriving in the country.
In the United Kingdom, the Embassy is organising conferences on the EU Single Market, Banking Union, Translatlantic relations and Energy Security, as well as various cultural events with a focus on architecture, design and jazz.
