Press statement by the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania

Ambassador of Lithuania in London Mr. Vygaudas Usackas on the tragic death of a Lithuanian citizen in Scotland said the following: "We are all deeply shocked by the nature of the murder of the young Lithuanian lady Ms.  Jolanta Bledaite, whose remains were found in Arbroath, Scotland last week. The people of Lithuania and the UK are joined in their condemnation of this violence and our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim.

The Lithuanian community in the UK has been deeply saddened by this horrible crime.  Lithuanians live peacefully throughout the UK, working and studying hard and making a significant contribution to the society in this country.

On behalf of the Lithuanian community I would like to pay tribute to, and offer our thanks for, the kindness and cooperation shown by the local authorities and community groups that have offered significant moral and financial support to the family of the deceased.

The Lithuanian Embassy continues to work closely with the relevant UK authorities and we extend our full support to the Scottish investigating authorities.  This is an isolated case and I hope that those responsible for this crime will be brought to justice swiftly".
