Press Conference Invitation -Coming up destination: Vilnius – European Capital of Culture 2009

  Lithuania announces Vilnius as European Capital of Culture 2009 at World Travel Market 2007 Date: 12th November 2007 Time: 13.30 Venue: Platinum Room 5 (Level 2 of the Press Centre), at ExCel London Main speakers: HE Mr Vygaudas Usackas, Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania, Mr. Alvitis Lukosevicius, Director of Lithuanian State Department of Tourism, Mrs. Dalia Bankauskaite, Executive Director of The Public Institution “Vilnius European Capital of Culture 2009”.  

Main topic: Lithuania is the first country among the former Post Soviet Union countries to have its capital, Vilnius, nominated for European Capital of Culture status.

A lavish year-long celebration of art and culture endorsed by the European Union is expected to boost already increasing tourism by 25% and raise the city’s international profile.

This will showcase the old town of Vilnius, a World Heritage site with examples of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture.

The project ‘Live Vilnius’ will be presented during the press conference together with Lithuania’s tourism and infrastructure plans and developments for 2008 and 2009.
