OPENING OF BIRMINGHAM'S FIRST RETAIL FOOD OUTLET

April 11th 2007 saw the opening in Birmingham of, what is believed to be, England’s largest retail outlet for Lithuanian food products. The outlet is located in the centre of Birmingham at Arch 12, Queensway Arches, 222 Livery St, Birmingham, B3 1EU. Trading as ‘Lituanica’, ( Lituanica being an American research aircraft that crossed the Atlantic in 1933, and crashed under mysterious circumstances close to its destination, Kaunas, Lithuania.), Proprietor Linas Bagoras said,

“This is a most exciting opportunity for me. The Lituanica brand is already established in London, Ipswich and Gravesend, all serviced out of a warehouse in Barking and I am confident, with the growing Lithuanian community in the West Midlands, that Birmingham is the right place to be. Whilst our range of foods is much the same as many food outlets of our size, all items are sourced from Lithuania or one of our neighboring countries and of course, most of the foods are flavored or presented with the Lithuanian taste in mind. Our interesting and varied range includes confectionery, tinned items, jams, pickles, biscuits, dressings, frozen and smoked fish, salamis, chilled product, chesses, popular spices, leaf teas as well as Lithuanian magazines and newspapers. We are aiming to serve as broader community as possible and are confident that after browsing around our shop, no one will leave without purchasing something.”
