Mockūno Nuclear plays gig at Charlie Wrights International
30 September, 2010. The trio Mockūno NuClear (reeds, keyboard, perc) is made up of young yet experienced Lithuanian jazz musicians who have been playing together for several years. Original music composed by Liudas Mockūnas and Dmitrij Golovanov drives through the landscape of free improvisation, jazz, heavy rock and punk. On the 30th September, on their way to Brugge Jazz Festival, Mockūno NuClear will play a gig at the Charlie Wrights International.

Liudas Mockūnas has been active on the European jazz scene as a co-leader of bands Pasborg - Mockūnas Toxikum, duo with Marc Ducret, Saga Quartet, duo with Ryoji Hojito and electro acoustic Red Planet. He is a member of the Copenhagen Art Ensemble, the new music ensemble Gaida, Pasborg's Odessa 5, and and the Vladimir Tarasov Trio He had played with New Jungle Orchestra, Andrew Hill's Jazz Par Octet, Mikko Innanens Inkvisitio, Mats Gustafsson's The Vilnius Explosion, Ibrahim Electric, Trio VD, Mats Gustafsson, Burry Guy, Jaak Sooaar, Jakob Anderskov, Marc Solborg, Jonas Westergaard, Mats Eilertsen, Nils Davidsen, and Jakob Riis. Mockūnas also plays new contemporary classical music by Anatolijus Šenderovas, Alvydas Malcys, Dietrich Eichmann, Bronius Kutavičius, Giedrius Puskunigis, Vykintas Baltakas, Viacheslav Ganelin. As a soloist he has played contemporary classical works with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, Kralovy Hradec Symphony Orchestra, St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra, Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra and the Chordos String Quartet.
Dmitrij Golovanov performs in various music styles ranging from traditional, modern-creative, free jazz to classical / jazz crossover and experimental electronic music. Thanks to his diverse skills Golovanov has been a member of various local (Riot, Magic Mushrooms, Saga Quartet) as well as international groups (Beat Freisen Spelunkenorchester (Germany), Herbie Kopf Lithuanian Quartet (Switzerland / Lithuania). In 2007 Dmitrij Golovanov became a winner of the Grand Prix of the “Vilnius Jazz Young Power” competition. He is a winner of the third prize at the International Piano Improvisation Competition in Vilnius (2006) and Grand Prix winner in the same competition in 2008. As the member of the group Riot he won the Grand Prix at the Jazz Hope 2005 competition.
Marijus Aleksa is a London-based Lithuanian drummer. Notwithstanding his young age the drummer is already a quite seasoned musician. At the age of fourteen Marijus Aleksa appeared with Oleg Molokoyedov's ensembles in several festivals and made his debut at the international Vilnius Jazz Festival. Since then, he has taken part in all the jazz festivals in Lithuania, as well as performing in Norway, Poland, Austria, the UK, and other countries. Among his recent achievements should be mentioned winning the Grand Prix at the First International Jazz Performers Competition Jazz Hope (with Riot, 2005) and 1st place at the Baltic Drummers Competition in 2007. Marijus Aleksa has collaborated with luminaries of Lithuanian jazz including Vytautas Labutis, Vladimir Chekasin, Petras Vyšniauskas, and Vladimir Tarasov. He has also performed in international ensembles, including the Norwegian Brazz Brothers, Herbie Kopf's Hip-noses, and TrioVD.
