Mezzo-soprano Justine Gringytė debuts in the Placido Domingo Gala

17, 20 October and 27, 30 October, 2011. Mezzo-soprano Justina Gringytė is the new Lithuanian voice who joined the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme in September 2011 and will make her Royal Opera debut as Maddalena (Rigoletto) Act III in the extraordinary event of the Royal Opera House season - Placido Domingo Gala.

Her other roles in the 2011/12 season are Flora (La traviata), Third Nymph (Rusalka), Maddalena (Il viaggio a Reims) (JPYAP 10th Anniversary Summer Performance) and cover Dorabella (Così fan tutte), Maddalena (Rigoletto), Meg Page (Falstaff) and La Marchesa Melibea (Il viaggio a Reims).

She also will sing Liebeslieder Walzer in Meet the Young Artists Week in the Linbury Studio Theatre.

Justina Gringyte studied at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and National Opera Studio, supported by the Lionel Anthony Scholarship. She currently studies with Buddug Verona James. She is a Samling Scholar. Awards include the Worshipful Company of Musicians’ Silver Medal and the Llais Llanbed Award. She was a finalist in the Stuart Burrows International Voice Competition and chosen to compete in the Francisco Viñas Competition, after which she received a scholarship to study at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana.

Opera includes Dorabella (Così fan tutte) at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, Phaedra (Britten) and scenes featuring Meg Page (Falstaff), Eboli (Don Carlos), Pauline (The Queen of Spades), title role (Carmen) and Beatrice (Beatrice et Benedict) at RWCMD, Dido (Dido and Aeneas) with Welsh Baroque Orchestra and scenes featuring Romeo (I Capuleti ed i Montecchi), title role (Carmen) and Waitress (Greek) at NOS. Concert performances include a recital at HRH The Prince of Wales’ residence in Llandeilo, Vivaldi In furore at Llandaff Cathedral, Clonter Opera Showcase for Emerging Artists, recitals at the International Music Festival Sugrįžimai in Lithuania, a Royal Gala at Buckingham Palace and a masterclass with Sarah Walker at Wigmore Hall.
