MaLituanie with Baba Sissoko to perform at the Petworth Festival
On 18 July MaLituanie together with Baba Sissoko will perform at the Petworth Festval that will run from 15 July to 1 August 2015. MaLituanie is a unique project performed by artists both from Lithuania and Mali. It easily and inseparably fuses the harmonies of traditional Malian and Lithuanian music, tells stories of wanderings and homesickness; of new experience in exotic lands, and the duty to preserve our cultural memory.
The leader of the project is Baba Sissoko, the prominent Malian world music performer. The Lithuanian world music scene will be represented by the multi-instrumentalist Saulius Petreikis, folk singer Laurita Peleniūtė, vocalist and Baltic psaltery player Indrė Jurgeleviciūtė, and the famous Lithuanian rock musician Victor Diawara who is originally from Mali.
Petworth Festival has been celebrating the very best classical and choral music, jazz, comedy and theatre for the past 36 years. Founded by composer Robert Walker, it is to this day spearheaded by Lord & Lady Egremont of Petworth House.
The project is partly supported by Lithuanian Council for Culture.
