LITHUANIAN PRESIDENCY OF THE EU PROGRAMME PRESENTED IN EDINBURGH
On 3 October 2013 the Ambassador of Lithuania to the UK Mrs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė and her delegation visited Edinburgh. The programme of the visit included meetings with Mr Alex Salmond, the First Minister of Scotland, Mr Donald Wilson, the Lord Provost of Edinburgh, members of the European and External Relations Committee of the Scottish Parliament, representatives of businesses, culture, academia, the Lithuanian community and the lecture at Edinburgh Napier University.
During the presentation of the Lithuanian EU Priorities at the Scottish Parliament, the Ambassador underlined that credible, growing and open Europe is our common goal, achievement of which requires the participation of all EU citizens.
The free economic zones and the flexible taxation policy in Lithuania were introduced at the meetings with the Scottish entrepreneurs and businesses presenting Lithuania as one of the most attractive investment directions in the Baltic countries. “The geopolitical situation of Lithuania is our great competitive advantage”.
A concert by the Lithuanian musicians Martynas Levickis (accordion), Gleb Plyšniak (cello) and Dalia Dėdinskaitė (violin) was held at the Edinburgh Town Hall to conclude the programme of the visit.
