Lithuanian New Drama in London
The Theatre and Cinema Information and Education Centre in Vilnius in collaboration with the Lithuanian Embassy in the UK have developed the project "Lithuanian Drama in London", to be implemented in 2010-2011. It is a cultural and social project, which should analyze the new migrant reality through playwriting. The first stage of the project taking place until the 21st of November is a creative London residence by the Lithuanian playwright Marius Ivaškevičius, developed in collaboration with the Orange Tree Theatre in London.
Marius Ivaškevičius describes his creative purpose in the following way: "There is an opinion that today in London you can see a small model of Lithuania. That migrants almost pedantically recreate Lithuanian social and geographical locations. The aim of my research is to dip into these layers. And in the opposite direction – to see the world through the eyes of Lithuanian immigrants, to see what happens with the Lithuanian, filtered through British law, culture and traditions."
The project is supported by the Lithuanian Cultural Foundation.
