Lithuanian Embassy in the UK celebrates National Day with a concert at St. Martin-in-the-Fields

On February 16, 2016 the Lithuanian Embassy in London invited British politicians, business people and foreign diplomats residing in London to mark the 98th anniversary of restoration of the Lithuanian statehood. A concert of classical music was held at London’s iconic St. Martin-in-the-Fields church.

“98 years ago the Republic of Lithuania was established. Today, Lithuania and the UK are partners in both the EU and NATO. I am pleased with the increasing cooperation in security and defence between our two countries. British troops exercise on the Lithuanian soil and Typhoon jets guard the air space of Lithuania and the other two Baltic states. I believe in our common feature within the European Union“, the Lithuanian Ambassador said.

The diplomat also thanked the consecutive British governments for not recognising Lithuania‘s incorporation into the Soviet Union in 1940 – 1990.

The concert of classical music at St. Martin-in-the-Field included pieces by composers Bizet, Donizetti, Mozart, Saint-Saens Liszt, Gaetano Donizetti, Klova, Kairiūkštis and Korngold. The music was performed by Romanas Kudriašovas (baritone), Laura Zigmantaitė (mezzo-soprano) and Gabija Butkutė (piano).
