Lithuanian Embassy celebrates National Day with a concert at St. Martin-in-the-Fields

10 February 2017. A Lithuanian modern classical string ensemble New Ideas Chamber Orchestra (NICO) held a concert at London’s iconic St. Martin-in-the-Fields to celebrate the 99th anniversary of restoration of the Lithuanian statehood. Politicians, business people and foreign diplomats were among the guests at the National day concert.

“Today is a triumphant day in Lithuania’s history. 99 years ago Lithuania returned on the map of Europe. It is my great privilege to celebrate the restoration of our statehood with our British friends. Lithuania and the United Kingdom are close allies, ready to support each other in ensuring peace and prosperity in Europe and beyond”, Ambassador Asta Skaisgirytė said.

The diplomat also thanked the consecutive British governments for not recognizing Lithuania‘s occupation between 1940 – 1990.

The Lithuanian National day celebrations are scheduled to take place next week in most Lithuanian Communities across the UK.
