Lithuanian Documentary at the Sheffield Doc/Fest
11 June, 2011. Documentary by Simona Žemaitytė „Born in USSR“ (Lithuania, Turkey, 2010, producer Ieva Buzinskaitė) has been selected for the Sheffield Doc/Fest and will be screened on the 11 June, 1pm at the Odeon Cinema, Doc/EU strand. The film also competes for the Student Doc Award, judged by the Vice Magazine’s head of post production, Al Brown; architect Funsho Parrott; Channel 4′s Ravi Amaratunga; BBC ‘Storyville”s Shanida Scotland and filmmaker Will Woodward. The animated allegory tells the story about children of the USSR who came up with a secret plan of how to find out what was behind their hills and borders.

The filmography of the young filmmaker Simona Žemaitytė currently includes 5 films: All about beauty (2010), Exit (2010), Deported (2009), Alice in Murderland (2008) and Sinnerman (2008). The filmmaker says she is more interested to produce the documentaries based on ideas rather than stories, films that would be consistent in content, form and aestehtics.
