Lithuanian artist Mr Simas Zaltauskas will be exhibited in Cardiff at the Norwegian Church, Cardiff Bay, Cardiff from the 25th February to the 10th March 2007. The official opening is on the 26th February by the culture minister of Welsh Assembly Government.
Two artists united in their search for identity in small countries link this Exhibition. Welsh prize winning artist, Les Mason, a native of the South Wales Valleys, turned to painting after a lifetime’s labour in the building industry. His inspiration derives from the countryside near his Cwmavon home, which is his second skin. He provides his own very distinctive take on familiar landscapes. By contrast, young Lithuanian, Simas Zaltauskas, from the Baltic port city of Klaipeda, represents an emerging nation, securing its post communist identity, where introspection meets the challenge of embracing the new as Lithuanian society pursues the creation of an enduring leitmotiv for the future. Simas Zaltauskas, who features in his first exhibition outside Lithuania, holds the Vilnius Art Academy Viktoras Vizgirda Award (2003), He works both as a landscape artist and as a portraitist in his exploration of the Lithuanian psyche.
