Lithuanian Ambassador to the UK hosted members of the Committee for Preservation of Jewish Cemeteries in Europe
On 17 December 2018 H.E. Renatas Norkus, Lithuanian Ambassador to the UK, hosted members of the Committee for Preservation of Jewish Cemeteries in Europe (CPJCE) led by its President Rabbi Elyakim Schlesinger at the Embassy in London. The range of issues of cooperation were discussed including the progress of implementation of the project of perpetuation of the Old Šnipiškės Jewish cemetery in Vilnius in line with the tripartite agreement signed by the Jewish. Community of Lithuania, the CPJCE and the Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture in 2009.
The meeting also presented an opportunity for the CPJCE members to visit the exhibition 'One Century out of Seven. Lithuania. Lita. Lite', currently displayed at the Embassy. It was opened during the 8th Litvak Days in London, an annual event organised by the Embassy, on 28 November 2018. The exhibition invites viewers to look afresh at the life of Jews in historical Lithuania from their arrival on the territory of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the 13th century up to the present day.
