The Ambassador of Lithuania to the Court of St James', HE Vygaudas Usackas, will meet with the Chief Constable of Cambridgeshire, Julie Spence, on Saturday 20 October at 10am.  The Ambassador invited the Chief Constable to meet and to discuss a range of issues relating to the Chief Constable’s calls for more staff and resources to cope with the pressures caused by a sudden influx of migrant workers, many coming from Central and Eastern Europe, including Lithuania.

The Ambassador, who first visited Huntingdon and Peterborough last year following his appointment to London, has followed the issues raised by the Chief Constable closely and wanted to use the occasion of the first 'Ambassador’s Cup' Golf tournament taking place at Brampton Golf Course, to arrange this meeting in order to develop a closer working relationship and tackle some issues and concerns.

His Excellency said, "The number of people coming to the United Kingdom in the last couple of years has far exceeded all expectations and we all clearly have a great deal of work to do to ensure closer relations and a harmonious existence moving forward.  Lithuanians and other Eastern and Central Europeans who are now residing in the UK do so as members of the European Union but also as guests of our British hosts.  The rich cultural diversity developing across Europe can only be a good thing, but there are serious issues that need to be addressed and that is why I have invited the Chief Constable to meet in the hope that we can identify ways of working together in the future for the benefit of all."

The Ambassador and Chief Constable will meet at 10am at Brampton Golf Course.  There will be the opportunity for the media to ask questions at 10:45am.
