LITHUANIA SUPPORTS UN DECLARATION TO STOP SEXUAL VIOLENCE IN CONFLICT

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius continues his visit at the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.  Lithuania pledged action in support of the declaration, initiated by the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs William Hague, seeking to stop sexual violence in conflict.

Yesterday, at an event in New York hosted by Foreign Secretary William Hague and UN Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict Zainab Bangura, 113 countries endorsed a historic new ‘Declaration of Commitment to end Sexual Violence in Conflict’.

Sexual violence in conflict is “a barrier to peace process, reconstruction of countries and establishment of human rights”, said the Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs L. Linkevičius.
