19 – 21 September, 2008. Lithuanian dancers Petras Lisauskas and Tautvilas Gurevičius and their contemporary dance production The Crossroad are part of a three-day celebration of European dance at the Southbank Centre. dancEUnion reveals to audiences the diversity of choreography and dance developing across Europe and enables choreographers and dancers the chance to share ideas and forge new unions.
The Crossroad is a production where both artists, Petras Lisauskas and Tautvilas Gurevičius, analyse the themes of personal freedom and choice. Body’s natural lines and energy, video projections and music lead to a unique performance language, which stands out for its artistic concept and an exciting merge of dance and video.
Both young men study dance and acting, however only Petras Lisauskas, a dancer of an unusual stature, is on stage. Tautvilas Gurevičius appears here as an experimenting composer.
The production was staged for Arts Printing House’ young performing artists program Open Space in 2005. The project is supported by the Culture Support Foundation and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.
dancEUnion, is one of a series of initiatives through which the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) aim to strengthen cooperation and exchange between the national cultural institutes of EU countries. The festival has been organized marking the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue 2008.
