John Anthony Packer, Lithuania's Honorary Consul in Wales, has been presented with Diplomatijos žvaigždė (Diplomacy Star)

On 8 January 2014, H.E. Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė, Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, visited Cardiff and presented the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs award Diplomatijos žvaigždė (Diplomacy Star) to John Anthony Packer, Lithuania's Honorary Consul in Wales.

The Deputy Presiding Officer of the National Assembly for Wales David Melding, members of the Association of Honorary Consuls in Wales, representatives of the business community, and John Anthony Packer's family attended the ceremony.

The ambassador thanked Anthony Parker for his long diplomatic work on behalf of Lithuania and his important input in strengthening collaboration between Lithuanian and Welsh educational, cultural, scientific and business institutions. 'It is very important to highlight Anthony’s work in the areas of culture and education. It was because of his initiative and efforts as Honorary Consul that in 2007 the original of the 1972 Petition with 17,000 signatures, was returned to the Lithuanian Catholic Church, and also that in 2012 close relations between Swansea and Kaunas Universities were established', said the ambassador.

The Diplomacy Star, the highest award that can be granted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, is conferred on those individuals who are considered particularly deserving because of their contribution to the work of the Lithuanian diplomatic service.
