To commemorate the Shoah in Lithuania Rabbi Lionel Rosenfeld and the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania in the UK Mrs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė invite you to an event dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Vilnius Ghetto liquidation on Monday, 30th September 2013 at 6.30 pm for 7.00 pm at the Western Marble Arch Synagogue 32 Great Cumberland Place, London W1H 7TN At the end of the event guests will have the opportunity to donate to The Holocaust Educational Trust. The commemorative concert will be performed by MARTYNAS LEVICKIS (accordion), DALIA DĖDINSKAITĖ (violin) and GLEB PYŠNIAK (cello) and will include the music of David Zehavi, Anatolijus Šenderovas, Béla Bartók, George Frideric Handel, Johan Halvorsen, and others.

 

Martynas Levickis (accordion)

The Lithuanian-born classical accordionist has been playing the accordion since the age of 3. In 2004 he was the first accordionist to be awarded Lithuania's Queen Morta Prize. Since 2002 Martynas has participated and won prizes in over 30 international competitions, such as: first prize in the 71st American Accordionist Association competition in Memphis 2010, 2nd prize at the Gala-Rini International Competition in Santa Clara, USA and the first prize in the world accordion competition Coupe Mondiale 2010. Apart from those competitions, Martynas also won the TV show Lithuania’s got Talent in 2010. Martynas has collaborated with the BBC Concert Orchestra, performed at Kings Place and given recitals in the Park Lane Group concert series at the Purcell room, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Wigmore Hall, and various international music festivals. Last year he graduated from the Royal Academy of Music with a Bachelor of Music degree. Martynas recently recorded his new album for Decca. The album presents diverse musical styles, artfully arranged to show off his brilliant virtuoso playing - from Beethoven to Vivaldi, Ennio Morricone to Lady Gaga.  Martynas has become the first accordionist to reach number one in the UK classical charts.

The String duo: Dalia Dėdinskaitė and Gleb Pyšniak emerged during the summer of 2009 and has already managed to impress audiences and critics with their vivid music and bursting energy. The young musicians hold awards from more than 30 international and national contests performed in numerous European and US venues such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, the Vienna Musikverein, the Casa da Musica in Porto, and the Paul Hall of the Julliard School in New York.  In 2012 during the summer festival ISA Prague-Vienna-Budapest the ensemble received the Kodaly Award for an outstanding performance of  Zoltán Kodaly's Duo for violin and cello op. 7.

 

Dalia Dėdinskaitė (violin)

Born in Vilnius, Dalia Dėdinskaitė is one of the most promising Baltic violinists of her generation.  She performs internationally as a soloist and chamber musician. After winning the prestigious international violin competition Violine in Dresden 2010 in Germany, the artist was invited to perform Ludwig van Beethoven's Violin Concerto at the Dresdner Musikfestspiele 2012.  Dalia is a prize-winner of several national and international competitions, amongst them the 4th Alexander Glazunov International Violin Competition in Paris, the National Balys Dvarionas Competition, the 4th Raimundas Katilius Young Performers' Competition, and the 6th International Stasys Vainiūnas Chamber Music Competition 

An enthusiastic chamber musician, Dalia has toured and participated in international classical music festivals, such as the 10th annual ChamberFest in New York, the Schwäbischer Frühling in Germany, Festival Pablo Casals in France, the International Holland Music Sessions in Holland, and others.  Dalia Dėdinskaitė is studying violin under Prof. Christian Altenburger and chamber music under Prof. Johannes Meissl.at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.

 

Gleb Pyšniak (cello)

Born in Vilnius, Gleb Pyšniak made his concerto debut at the age of 14 as a soloist with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra. Since then he has performed internationally in prestigious venues such as the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the Vienna Musikverein. Gleb Pyšniak is a prize-winner of many national and international competitions including the Karl Davydov 4th International Cello Competition, the 1st prize as well as a special prize Accord case winner of the 6th Antonio Janigro International Cello Competition in Poreč, the 1st prize as well as a special prize of the August Dombrovskis 6th International Competition, the 1st prize in the competition of string instruments of all Lithuanian academies in 2008, Grand Prix in the competition organised by the Jewish society of Lithuania in 2008, and the Yamaha Award winner in 2010. In 2005 Pyšniak was awarded a grant by the Monsignor Kazimieras Vasiliauskas Fund.  In 2009 Gleb Pyšniak was selected the New Master on Tour at the International Holland Music Sessions“. In 2012 during the festival "ISA Prague-Vienna-Budapest" together with violinist Dalia Dėdinskaitė he won the "Kodály Award" for an outstanding performance of Zoltán Kodály's Duo op. 7 for violin and cello. Gleb Pyšniak graduated from the Lithuanian Music and Theatre Academy. He is currently studying chamber music at the Music and Performing Arts University in Vienna under Prof. Johannes Meissl and cello at the  Konservatorium Wien University under prof. Natalia Gutman.
