Invitation to 4th Litvak days in London. 30 November - 1 December
Dear Friends, As you may remember each year the Embassy of Lithuania celebrates the traditional Litvak days in London. The annual event is dedicated to the history and culture of Lithuanian Jews and serves as a platform to link the British, Jewish and Lithuanian communities.
This year we invite you to (re)discover the Jewish Heritage of Lithuania. Once known as Yerusholaim de-Lita (the Northern Jerusalem) Lithuania had been home to its vast and vibrant Litvak community for more than 5 centuries. The spiritual and material heritage of the Lithuanian Jews is remarkably rich and diverse and holds a special place in the cultural history of the European Jewry.
That is why the 4th Litvak Days offers you an extensive program. The days kick off on Sunday, 30th November 2014 with the screening of the film “Ghetto” followed by Q/A with the film director A. Juzėnas. On 1st December we kindly invite you to the Lithuanian Embassy where a number of distinguished speakers will be sharing their insights and providing different perspectives on the Jewish heritage of Lithuania. The same day we request the pleasure of your company at the opening of the exhibition “The Path of Litvak Artists”. The exposition presents the pieces by famous Litvak representatives of the École de Paris.
We attach the detailed program of the 4th Litvak days here.
To register please e-mail events@uk.mfa.lt. We also kindly ask you to indicate in the e-mail whether you are planning to attend the Litvak days’ events on both dates (30 November/1 December).
