The Embassy of Lithuania in the UK invites you to a concert on the 99th Anniversary of the Restoration of Lithuanian Independence on Friday, 10 February 2017 at 1.00 pm at St-Martin-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square, London WC2N 4JH. A Lithuanian modern classical string ensemble New Ideas Chamber Orchestra (NICO) will perform compositions by Richter, Pärt, Lauridsen, Hamel, Gelgotas, and Vivaldi. The event is free of charge. The tickets are on a first come first served basis (No RSVP needed).
New Ideas Chamber Orchestra
is more than a modern classical string ensemble. Playing by memory and mixing classical and pop idioms with non-traditional string instrument techniques, singing, speaking, as well as involving elements of minimalist choreography on stage the group creates a sublime, ethereal and energetic musical experience.
For those who may think “new music” means something bare and out-of-reach, listening to and watching NICO performing Gediminas Gelgotas’ luxurious and acclaimed new compositions will transform you into a sophisticated enthusiast.
Since highly acclaimed Lithuanian composer Gediminas Gelgotas founded NICO in 2006, the ensemble performed widely at major concert halls, contemporary art centers and various unconventional spaces across Europe and the US. NICO have recently made their debut at the London’s Roundhouse, Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Usedom Music Festival, and other prestigious venues, as well as recorded their latest albums at the renowned Paramount Recording Studios in Los Angeles and for Peermusic Classical label in Hamburg.
