High-powered launch for exhibition

Figures from the diplomatic world mingled with politicians, education leaders and teachers at the launch of an international exhibition at a Tower Hamlets school on January 30. Bishop Challoner Catholic Collegiate School is the only UK stop for a touring international exhibition marking 1,000 years of Lithuanian history and culture.

The school was chosen because of its extensive links with the country through the growing numbers of Lithuanian students attending the school.

The exhibition, entitled Lithuania: Culture and History, is being organised by the country's Art Museum, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its Embassy in London.

Among the guests at the launch evening, hosted by Bishop Challoner’s Executive Director Catherine Myers, were representatives of the Embassy, led by the Charges d’Affaires. Other diplomats attending included the Swedish and Georgian Ambassadors, plus senior officials from the Estonian and Latvian Embassies. Also there were education officials from London and Tower Hamlets plus representatives of various communities in the capital.

The two-week exhibition is open to the public every weekday until February 13, from 5pm-8pm and on Saturday February 7 from 12 noon- 4pm.

Before arriving in London, the exhibition visited Finland and Estonia and after February 13 will head for Brussels and the European Council headquarters. Further stops on its world tour include France, America, Canada, Japan and Israel.
