Sergej Berinsky Lullaby
Martynas Levickis is a captivating performer whose virtuosity has transformed the way we hear the accordion. Playing accordion since the age of 3 and having completed his studies at the Royal Academy of Music in 2012, he became the first ever accordionist to be signed to Universal Music Group’s Decca Classics label and is the first accordionist to reach number one in the UK Classical Music Charts.
Put your preconceptions aside: this programme contrasts the timeless clarity of Bach and Scarlatti with the dark and brooding reflections of Hermosa’s Fragilissimo (a tour-de-force for the performer), and Berinsky’s gentle and searching Lullaby. To complete the programme, Levickis performs his own highly colourful arrangements of folk music from his home country. All are transformed by the sound of the accordion and Martynas’ own consummate artistry. Hear for yourself in the wonderfully rich acoustic of Bath’s Old Theatre Royal.
