EU ENERGY ISSUES DISCUSSED AT THE LITHUANIAN EMBASSY IN LONDON

On 28th November 2013 the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė hosted the EU Ambassadors meeting with The Rt Hon Edward Davey, UK Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change. The event was organised during the Lithuanian Presidency of the EU to discuss the current issues in the EU Energy sector.

In her welcome speech, the Ambassador reiterated, that the Lithuanian EU Presidency attaches great importance to the EU energy policy and Climate Change issues. "Completion of the EU internal energy market and strengthening of the external dimension of EU energy policy are the main priorities of our Presidency. Both topics are decisive in achieving security of supply and ensuring affordable price for citizens and business," said the Ambassador.

The Rt Hon Edward Davey elaborated on the current Energy debate in the UK and expressed his support for the approach based on "trilemma" of affordability, decarbonisation and energy security. "I would like to see the Single Energy Market in the EU with better connections all over Europe. It would bring security and better prices," said the Secretary of State.
