EU AMBASSADORS MEETING WITH EUROPE MINISTER DAVID LIDINGTON

On 18 December 2013, Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė, marking the end of the Lithuanian EU Presidency in London, hosted a meeting for colleagues from EU embassies with the Minister for Europe, The Rt. Hon.  David Lidington, MP.

In her welcoming speech the Ambassador elaborated on the outcomes of the Lithuanian Presidency by stating that “The Presidency did not just put a great responsibility on Lithuania and our public service.  It also gave us an opportunity to present Lithuania, to strengthen links with other EU countries and beyond”. 

The Minister for Europe The Rt. Hon. David Lidington MP, reminded how far Lithuania and the Baltic States have gone since the “Singing Revolution” and commended on the role played by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius during the Lithuanian EU Presidency. He further elaborated on the existential challenges facing Europe globally, touched on the roles played by the national parliaments and the European Parliament and discussed public perceptions of the EU in the UK. 

At the end of the event Ambassadors had a chance to ask questions and exchange views on issues, close to heart of all Europeans, including Multiannual Financial Framework, Banking Union, Eastern Partnership, EU Enlargement, Energy Security, Cyber Security and Global Free Trade with strategic partners.
