EMBASSY OF LITHUANIA IN LONDON IS HOLDING LITVAK DAYS
On 17-19 December 2012 the Lithuanian Embassy in London, together with University College London (UCL) and the Lithuanian Institute of History holding series of events about Jewish culture, history, social, economic and political life.
Days will begin with “No Simple Stories II: Lithuanian Jewry in historical perspective” conference, held at the embassy. The book “Pragmatic Alliances”, published by the Lithuanian Institute of History, dedicated to the political cooperation between Jews and Lithuanians in the beginning of the 20th century in establishing the Republic of Lithuania will be launched. Participants will be welcomed by the leaders of the UK and the Lithuanian Jewish communities – Mr Vivian Wineman, and Mrs Faina Kukliansky, respectively. Dr Leonidas Donskis, MEP will lead the discussions.
The following day events will move to UCL, where well-known historians, representatives from media and prominent politicians from the UK, Israel, Lithuania, USA and Poland will tackle Litvak culture, heritage and history, and one of the largest tragedies in the Lithuanian history – the Holocaust.
Litvak days will conclude on 19th December with concert of two like-minded musicians, accordionist Martynas Levickis and violinist Abe McWilliams (Duo Versus) at London Sandys Row Synagogue.
