CONGRATULATIONS TO MELLIE SACHET – THE WINNER OF THE DESIGN CONTEST „LITHUANIA IN THE EMBASSY‘S WINDOW“

The design contest which was organised by the Lithuanian Embassy in London and the Lithuanian Youth Association in the United Kingdom, has finally come to an end. The winner is a French student Mellie Sachet who is currently studying at Vilnius Dailes Academy on an Erasmus program.

The selection committee have received eight designs from various artists who offered their insights on how to present Lithuania in the Embassy‘s windows. The Lithuanian ambassador Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė remarked that the Lithuanian Embassy always welcomes projects with youth involvment. „This particular project was a great opportunity to invite our young talents to look at our country in the European Union context and express their ideas in the submitted designs. As Lithaunian Presidency of the EU Council is approaching fast, the renewed window will allow the passers-by to learn more about Lithuania.“

The Vice President of the Lithaunian Youth Association in the United Kingdom Darius Tamauskas hopes that lively and colorful Embassy‘s windows will attract attention of passers-by. „Mellie‘s work will remain relevant long after Lithuania‘s presidency of the EU Council is over – being in the middle of political attention for half a year, Lithuania will remain geographical centre of Europe forever“, said D.Tamauskas.

The winner Mellie Sachet said that her design revolved around the idea that Lithuania is a geographical centre of Europe. „As a foreigner in this country, it was a really great exercise to work on this project. I wanted to underline the geographical centre aspect as well as use the mixed colorful pattern which represents the cultural and more precisely architectural wealth of Lithuania. I didn‘t expect to see these sweet pastel buildings.“ The winner has been invited for the official award ceremony during the annual Lithaunian community organisations gathering that will take place on 11 May 2013 at the Lithuanian Embassy in London.

The selection committee awarded the 2nd place to Sigita Plyskaitytė who is currently studying in Denmark.
